Does some autistic behaviour seem strange to you? Do you want first hand insight into understanding why they do it?
This 15 minute presentation was delivered to the Asia Pacific Autism Conference in June of 2019. It outlines an approach to understanding autistic behaviour that assumes first that the person is human and experiences the same emotions we all do. This assumption of commonality allows for an empathic connection. Autistic behaviour is human behaviour and when we connect on a human level all things become possible.
Autistic people seem to have a sixth sense for understanding others on the spectrum. This presentation aims to teach you that skill so that you too can gain first hand insight into what it's like to be on the autism spectrum. Textbook theoretical knowledge is abstract and divorced from any specific situation - to understand an individual you need an empathic connection.
